Ok, so while in the tangles and tangles of yarn working on the Prayer Shawl and the suprise shawl, I began to feel as if I were drowning...I needed a life raft.
You know what I mean...something quick and easy and somewhat justifiable when someone asks you "Why, I thought you were working on those two big shawls? Dear, don't you know you must finish what you start?"
So I decided I'd make a baby. Hat, that is. And booties too. I bought some Wendy Peter Pan yarn in Blossom (gorgeous color, don't you think?) and went to town. The hat is the Umbilical Cord hat from SnB Handbook sans the umbilical cord. And the booties are from SnB Nation sans the buttons (still need to get those).
So this was the perfect "liferaft" project.
QUICK-took me about 5 hours for the whole thing...and it was my first time using DPN and short rows
EASY-I never realized how simple a hat done in the round could be, and these booties were super simple (until the crochet part, but I figured that out too)
SOMEWHAT JUSTIFIED-The co-worker I made these for is due in about 3.5 weeks, so it just had to be done now, right?
In non-knitting news, I went to the Renaissance Faire last Sunday for its final day of the season. I have been going to the Ren Faire since I was about 3, so that would make it 24 years this year. Here I am in my "Middle-Easternish" garb. I went with my mom, her pal Suzanne (who, incidentally, is a REAL bellydancer and probably knows what to do with these coins better that me) and my best pal Kristi. Nothing like getting boozed up at 10:30 in the morning. And believe me drunken "Rennies" and costumes and knockers on display is gooooood fun!
You look beautiful in that picture! I love the color of the booties and hat. Your co-worker will love them. I have fondled the Wendy Peter Pan yarn at my LYS and have been tempted to make something for myself with it to lounge around the house in. It's sooo soft and cuddly!
